The Gods Must Be Crazy II is the second in a series of 3 movies called The Gods Must Be Crazy. It was released in 1989, and is still popular today! Jay, the protagonist, tries to make his way back to "civilization" with little luck. He travels by foot and motorbike over mountain roads filled with elephants, wolves, buffalo and all sorts of wildlife. Along the way he encounters an orphan girl named Zoe that wants to go back to her home in Africa; Jay agrees she can come with him if she promises not to scream or run away from any wild animals they may cross on their journey back home. The story is told through a series of flashbacks that follow the events that lead up to the journey. Jay's first recollection of Africa is as a child watching television and thinking about his new family and how he would like to be back with them. His first real interaction with an African tribesman is on a safari where they give him a lion cub as a gift that he finds disturbing. Back in civilization again, Jay finds an abandoned duffel bag filled with Native American pottery and finds his new family (his parents) heavily drugged (he finds this totally incomprehensible as no one has ever seen such stuff before). A few years later, Jay finds some more pottery and decides to go back to find his family. Back in Africa, things go from bad to worse when Meg realizes she is pregnant and the two other members of her family refuse to help because of what Jay's family has done to them. They kidnap him and take him to his old African village. Jay attempts to find a way out and find his parents and sister only to find out that he is not alone back in Africa, but that there are others that remember him from their childhoods. Eventually, the three main characters come together and give birth to a half-African/half-white daughter named Zoe (renamed Zoë in the later part of the film). As such, Jay can now be reunited with his real family. Many years later, Jay comes to the rescue when Zoë's tribe is threatened by a number of things including an elephant stampede and rain that falls in one location for too long. Eventually, the gods must be crazy once again. The movie ends with the family flying back to return Zoe (now named Zoë) to her own home in Africa. The soundtrack was composed by Frankie Stevens with lyrics written by Andre Laplante, John Whitehead and Billy Newton-Davis. It was released on May 1989 with catalogue number A&M 5486290649-2. The album was produced in Canada by Johannesburg producer Charles Fisher. An instrumental, "African Rumba", composed by John Whitehead under the pseudonym "The Whitehead Brothers", was used in the end credits. The album was released on CD in 2007 by the MFS label, distributed by EMI.

The original version of "African Rumba" contains an extra verse that was not featured in The Gods Must Be Crazy II. The song is called 'African Dream' and this version can be found on certain editions of The Original Soundtrack 1.
